As you may know, moving can be an exciting yet stressful time in anyone’s life. Whether this is your first time or fifth time moving we wanted to provide you with some moving hacks to make your transition a little easier. As you begin packing your boxes and tucking things away into your moving van you should be aware of the fact that there are things you don’t want to pack. Crazy idea right? But, it’s true. Packing is great for clothing, glassware, and textiles but there are a few things you want to keep far away from those pesky moving boxes.

What you shouldn’t pack during your next move:

  • Phone charger(s)
  • Medications
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Perishables
  • Pet food
  • Paper plates and utensils
  • Soap/hand sanitizers

Phone charger(s)

If you or a family member have a cell phone you know how fast those pesky things can die. Be sure to have a charger nearby in case you need to call in reinforcements to help you move those heavy pieces of furniture.

Medications

Whether you are experiencing a cold or have to take your medication daily at a certain time, be sure to keep them close by so you have them when you need them. You don’t want to miss your 4 o’clock pill because you left them in one of those brown boxes that all look the same.

Cleaning supplies

As soon as you turn the key you will want to break out those cleaning supplies in your new place. Giving your new home a scrub down before placing your items in each room is a good idea.

Perishables

You may have fresh fruits or milk that needs to be refrigerated right away, so be sure to leave these items out so they can be transferred into your new home’s refrigerator or freezer as soon as possible.

Pet food

It doesn’t matter if you are a cat or dog person or even a fish person, your favorite animals will want to eat or play as soon as they arrive at their new home. Be sure to have their favorite things ready so they can get accustomed to their new place.

Paper plates and utensils

You may want to break in your new stove with a home cooked meal or take it easy and order a pizza, whatever you decide be sure to have your paper plates and plastic utensils readily available so you don’t have to worry about doing the dishes.

Soap/hand sanitizers

Moving can be a dirty job, and that’s why it’s so important to have your soap or hand sanitizers out of the box so that you can clean up in order to avoid transferring the dirt from your hands to other areas of the house.

Now that you know what you shouldn’t pack during your next move, we wish you a lifetime of happiness in your new home!
