3 things you must do before your first showing

Are you ready to show off… your home? Putting your home up for sale is a great first step, but it’s not the most important step. Preparation is key because if your home doesn’t show well it will be harder to sell and you may not get what you want based on that factor alone. Take some extra time to make sure that the buyer will be impressed with how your home looks with just one walk-through.

3 things you must do before your first showing:

  1. Clean.
  2. Make sure your lights come on.
  3. Check your curb appeal.

Clean.

While this may seem like a no-brainer, cleaning is crucial. Don’t let potential buyers walk through your home with a dirty bathroom, cobwebs, or water sitting in your basement. Letting things go makes it appear to buyers that you don’t take care of your home. While your home is on the market, take 30 minutes a day to clean because you never know when your agent may call with a potential buyer.

Make sure your lights come on.

If you are leaving a home vacant or taking care of an estate be sure that you are going to check on the place every now and then. You don’t want to lose a potential sale because the hallway light isn’t working due to a blown bulb. Little things can be big things to buyers because they may assume there is an electrical problem that does not exist. Take the time to make sure your home will sell well when the time comes.

Check your curb appeal.

How does the outside of your home look? Are you keeping your grass mowed, weeds pulled, and the bushes trimmed? If not, it’s a good idea. Like we stated before, if you are leaving your home vacant it’s in your best interest to take the time to still take care of the home so it’ll sell. If you have moved out of state hire someone who can take care of the house for you until it sells. You don’t want to lose out on thousands of dollars due to something that could’ve been taken care of with a little TLC.
