Summertime is the best time to be outside and enjoying the rays! It is also a great time to do a little maintenance on your home. Whether you are getting ready to stick the “For Sale” sign in your yard, throwing a graduation party, or just need to do a little upkeep, there is no better time than the summertime! The best way to increase the value of your home is to do regular routine maintenance. We have put together a great summertime home improvement checklist that you can work off of to make sure that your home is ready for all of those summer festivities!

Summer Home Improvement Checklist:

Clean your Air Conditioner/Fan/Window Units

Whether you are using an A/C unit or a ceiling fan you must take the time to clean and change out the filters before firing them up for the summer heat. If you are uncomfortable doing routine maintenance on your A/C unit we suggest calling a professional to service your unit.

Also, if you are using ceiling fans in your home be sure to get a damp rag and make sure they are clean and free from dust before turning them on.

Wash your windows

Your windows will need to be cleaned in order to shine in the summer sun!

Landscaping

Did you know that your landscaping is one of the first things visitors will notice when pulling in your driveway? In order to make a good first impression, it is important to get out there and pull the weeds, plant new flowers or bushes and lay down some new mulch. You will be surprised how much fresh landscaping will change the look of your home!

Clean the Exterior

You may have a porch, deck, or even vinyl that needs to be cleaned after a long winter. Your porch or deck will need to be swept, possibly mopped, and inspected for loose nails and floor boards. You may also consider applying a polish or finish to your porch or deck to add a fresh new look.

Don’t forget to power wash the exterior of your home to get rid of all the dirt and grime that has built up over the course of time. These things may seem time-consuming or minuscule, but they will add up and give your home new life.

Clean the Gutters

It is recommended that you clean your gutters twice a year to prevent clogging and other leaks from occurring.

With so much to do and so little time, it is almost impossible to nail down every last home maintenance tip out there. Now that you know where to start as the temperature starts warming up, we hope that your summer is full of great memories and a beautiful home to make them in.
